I'm hoping someone out there can help me figure out who married James Marion Fain and who married George Washington Burchfiel. Some members from each family is saying the same girl EDMONDS married their guy. I've corresponded with both families and neither of them can prove who the bride is or disprove the competitor. They each have family records and family trees but no one can connect her to any parents or even siblings apparently and don't seem to have any solid birth date for her.
The bride in question is the daughter of Jonathan Edmonds and Laurinda Petty living in Jefferson in the 1860 and Sevier County until their deaths after the 1910 census (no he didn't seem to die in 1909).
She is on two censuses with her parents:
1860 C. *M*. Edmonds, age 2 in Jefferson.
1870 Sinda *M*., age 12 in Sevier.
James Marion Fain is indexed as having married a "Lucinda R. Edmonds" in 1873 in Sevier County.
They are on the 1880 census in Jefferson--she is listed as "Riler" (age 25 which doesn't match the 1860 and 1870 censuses--but then James's age is off by 2 years from all his other censuses also so I don't know that her age of 25 instead of 22 is an issue) with Rody J 6, Charly 4, Cristopher 11M. The family knew her as "*Marilla*". James remarries Hettis Berry in 1886 in Sevier.
George Washington Burchfiel is indexed as having married a "Sena S. Edmonds" in 1881 in Jefferson County. "Sena" never appears on a census with him because he remarried Mary Jane Hartsell abt 1895. But children born after 1881 and before 1895 include Nellie E Z 1884, Charles H 1886, James L 1888, Loucenie A 1890, George A 1891 and Nancy M. 1894 (those are the names on the 1900 census--names on the Smokey Mts Ancestry Quest lilnk below are variations or totally different. The family knew her as "Sennie" or a few people have Cena on their trees but they don't know where they got the names. Maybe one of the kids has a name other than "Sennie" on their death certificates that might give us a clue as to another nickname or other initital? Any BURCHFIEL descendants have any of these death certificates?
Since we're now one bride short and the daughter of Jonathan Edmonds from Sevier appears to be out of the house in the 1880 I went looking for anyone with a name like "Sena *S* Edmunds" (in Jefferson County where the marriage took place)who might have married George W. Burchfiel in 1881.
C.*S* (as indexed in the 1860)
Leana (as indexed in the 1870)
Phena *S*. Edmonds (as indexed in the 1880) --
the daughter of Anderson Edmonds and Sarah STRANGE who appears under each of those three names in consecutive censuses in the home of her parents and then just her mother.
Or maybe I have her all wrong. Who did she marry? Any STRANGE family information out there?
Almost all the women I've tracked in those two counties got married in the county where their parents were living at the time of the marriage.
Marilla (Fain) is here in Smokey Mts. Ancestral Quest
Sennie (Burchfiel) is here:
I'm looking for help in either proving or disproving any of these situations.
All help appreciated. Thanks
