Hi Becky: I think you gave me the 11 children (what I have) and I see a spouse or two and a child here and there.
If there is more, pls send. The other Shakleford children
would also be appreciated.

I do not recall off-hand the surname, but you mentioned a
William Wilkins ________. My great aunt of long ago, Sarah
"Sallie" (Shelby) Alexander had dau. Mary Mahala Alexander
who married William Wilkins Duckworth in Haywood Co., TN.
They had a son, Col. William Lafayette Duckworth, Commander
of 7th TN Calvary, and a son, Capt. Alexander Duckworth, both in CSA, who teacher, lawyer, and later Superior Court
Clerk for Haywood Co., TN.

Quite a bit written about descs. of Mary Mahala's brother,
Moses Burton Alexander who married Margaret H. Allen in
Mecklenburg Co., NC, and they migrated to Cuba, Shelby Co.,
TN, which may still have been called "Big Creek".

One descendant of Moses' is about 86 and lives in Memphis,
and she is good at genealogy and taught me a lot about our
Alexanders and esp. Shelbys. She married a West. She was
m. to Charles Albert West. She was Jean Poston Alexander,
who was the dau. of James Burton and Johnnye Bell (Daws)
Alexander. James Burton Alexander, s/o Thomas Alburtus
& Anna Larue (Poston) Alexander, had a sister, Boyce Alexander (dau. of Thomas Alburtus as well). Boyce married
Cecil Milton Gooch, who was in lumber business at the time.
They were very successful and gave a lot of money to various colleges, universities in TN and elsewhere, and she
gave scholarships to Vassar where she graduated, ... the
info I have looks like more than a "whos who" in their
many kind-hearted gifts, mostly in educational pursuits of
many would-be students. I recently bought a book re Cuba
TN and surrounding areas which was basically a genealogy
text. Thomas Alburtus was mentioned in the book. When I
talked to the author, in her mid 80s today, she told me that the Gooch Foundation enabled her son to go to medical
school.

Her book: 'History of Cuba, Tennessee, with Family
Accounts and Genealogy," by Shirley Sigler Chamberlin, a
beautiful lady, esp. in her youth. She has several children all of whom were very successful in Cuba and various Univs. like Un. TN, MS, and several others. A dau. was a buyer for Sakowitz for years here in Houston, where she and her husband still live, but I have never met them.

Later, Mac Alexander.

PS: I bought two books and my brother also bought a book.
Apparently, she had the books published at her own expense
and still has several books on hand.

Mac.
