My grandmother's grandmother was Mary Jane Mallett--Nancy's sister. I have been looking at this for about 10 years now. My grandmother's grandfather was Curren Lawson. My grandfather's grandfather was Ambrose Lawson--Curren Lawson's brother. Some of it is just putting 2 and 2 together. We know that a "Ned" Burton killed Iredell Willis. We know from a pension file that Francis Burton killed a man--unnamed--but he was widely feared because of it. We know from a family story that James Willis shot (ambushed) a man reputed to be a Burton on his front porch in the 1890s for revenge (cause not given). James Willis was the son of Iredell Willis and Julia. We know from DNA testing that descendents of a Lawson child of Sarah Manis born towards the end of the Civil War tested as a Willis. The family story is that Iredell Willis was the father. Sarah was married to Palestine Lawson who was Curren Lawson's brother. We know from a document that Iredell Willis killed Clinton Manis towards the end of the Civil War. Francis Burton's father was William Burton aka Trent and he was married to Salina Murrell, the aunt of Pleasant G. Murrell. William Pleasant G. Murrell married Peter Lawson,s daughter Elizabeth. Francis Burton's brother John C. Burton married Curren Lawson's sister Elizabeth. James Burton Trent was the uncle of William Burton. Supposedly Peter Lawson was the brother/uncle of John Jackson Lawson who married Anna Manis--the mother of Sarah Manis. Clinton Manis was the uncle of Sarah Manis. Clinton Manis was the uncle of Nelson Manis. Clinton Manis was the son of Alcy/Alsey Lawson who was the sister of Peter Lawson. Nelson Manis' daughter Mary married Curren Lawson. We know that Iredell Willis was first married to Sarah/Susan Johnson who was the stepdaughter of Martin Lawson, the uncle of Curren Lawson. Sarah/Susan Johnson's mother was the sister of Elizabeth Johnson who married James Burton Trent. James Burton Trent was the father of Susan Trent who first married Pleasant G. Murrell. Clinton Manis' great aunt married Lewis Minor. Lewis Minor's brother John was the grandfather of Nancy Mallett. So, the killing of Iredell Willis could be directly related to the killing of Clinton Manis as opposed to the pregnancy of Sarah Manis by Iredell Willis--although I suspect that the Clinton Manis killing has something to do with Sarah Manis.
