Burrell was the son of John Lee Jr and the grandson of John Lee Esquire. Anna Smith was the daughter of Robert Smith, a Lieutenant in the Rev War.
Both of them were born in/near Johnston Co. NC and moved to Hawkins Co. TN with their families when they were young. I believe they married in or near Hawkins Co. probably around 1794-1795 (first child born 1796) but I have not been able to find any record of this.
They moved on to Madison Co. AL in the early 1800's where Anna died between 1842-1843. She is mentioned in her father's military records but only by first name.
I am trying to find any document that shows her married to Burrell. I have looked at Hawkins Co marriage records online but have not yet been able to travel to that county to look at any other records. The few deeds I have located for Burrell do not mention his wife. I have not found a will or anything here in AL that shows them as husband and wife (except word of mouth from family). All Lee researchers have them together, but I’ve not been about to find a source for that. (Source is needed for a DAR application.)
Anna and Burrell are buried on their AL property but, unfortunately, the names have been rubbed off the markers by the cattle that lie on the stones. There are 2 graveyards on the property – Lee and Smith – so I feel sure that a Smith brother probably moved to AL with them.
Do any of you have any suggestions as to where else I can look? Or does anyone on this board have information that would be helpful?
Thanks so much.
