James Montgomery of Hardin County

In my research of James Montgomery, I have found many.

My research has to include the tracing of all men by this
name whom came out of Virginia.

James Montgomery found in Washington County, Virginia
in the year of 1782 paying his personal property taxes
in the precinct of Captain Alexander Barnett is whom I
am in search of.

He is listed there in 1782 and then again in 1784.

I believe he is the same whom was in court in Sumner
County in 1783. In 1783 he was accused of an association
with the Colbert Gang. This James Montgomery had sent to
Virginia for letters that told of his character of which
was presented to the court. He was released of this and
allowed to settle and become a good citizen.

This is the James Montgomery whom I suspect to have lived until after the 1820 U.S. Census of Smith County was taken.

James Montgomery born before 1774 is listed next to
Stephen Montgomery 20-30 years.

Now, then I know there are others that know more about this
immediate family, but I think they are looking at the wrong
Stephen Montgomery?

1820 U.S. Federal Census report of Smith County, Tennessee reflects a Stephen Montgomery.

1830 U.S. Federal Census report of Smith County, Tennessee
reflects a Stephen Montgomery.

Then for some reason in 1840 Stephen has gained about 25
years to his age and living in Sumner County, Tennessee.

The Stephen Montgomery whom I suspect is the brother of
James and Joseph Montgomery whom lived in Hardin County
is in Saint Francois County, Missouri by 1840.
