Winstead Collins was the son of Andy Collins b. 1805 VA and Delilah Gibson b. 1820 TN (second wife). Winstead married Mary Jane Collins on 23 Mar 1873. His brother were Lediford, Sage, and Paisley. Andy's first wife is unknown, but their children were Nancy, Perry, Catherine, Leathy, and Alvis Collins. My real interest is why he was named Winstead. This may be the family name of a female ancestor. The brother of my greatgrandfather, Wheeler Lawson, married a daughter of Lediford Collins. This Lawson family (descendents of Banks Lawson and Joel Cobb) was closely related to the Winsteads of Hawkins County. Since the folks in Hancock/Hawkins County tended to marry second and third cousins, the fact that someone was named Winstead seems more than a coincidence.
