Brian, I just found my way to this forum and saw your message. I am searching for a Joe Long(grgrgrandfather). According to 1880 census Hancock Co. TN, his children list their father as being born in KY. Joe Long married Martha Maxey around 1870 and had four children in Sneedville. She divorced him in 1880 for abandonment. The family lore says he went to Rosehill, Va to be with family and she had her reasons for not going. I can't find any trace of this Joe. I have the divorce papers but few clues came from that.
