Seal & Trent Families
Posted by: Jean Date: November 21, 2001 at 05:13:15

Looking for information about Laura Laverne Seal, born 7 August 1862 to Evan/Ivan Seal and Mary Jane Manning(s). The family states emphatically that "Vernie" was "half Indian" but isn't clear on which half, or what tribe. I can't match anyone on any of the Rolls, and wonder if there is a Melungeon connection instead? Apparently the first Seal ancestor arrived on a British prison ship.

Laura Laverne's siblings include Jesse, Nancy, Monroe, Christopher Columbus, Della, and Kizza. The family moved to southwest Missouri and several are interred at Thornfield.

Laura Laverne married William Franklin Trent in Sneedville 1882. Their children include Rebecca, Kit Carson, Axie, Audie, Martha Jane, Okie, Daisy Lou, Osta Chloe, Eula Jesse, and Ethel Mae. Daisy Lou did live in the area of Oklahoma known as the Cherokee Strip.

Thank you!
