Hi - I'm a Tennessee/Hamilton County volunteer with the organization "Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness" (

I do much of my research at the Chattanooga library. I'll check tomorrow to see what I can find on Mr. PORTER. So far, I know that he has a 1927 Tennessee death certificate (No. 26772), which I should be able to easily get. The certificate should identify the cemetery. There also may be a local death record.

Given his death date, I can check the newspapers (more than one published in Chattanooga during that period) for articles and obituaries.

I'll assess all the available sources and let you know the estimated cost for copying and mailing the material. I never charge for my service, only for copy and mail costs.

On a possible related note, there's a 12/03/1907 obituary for a Mrs. G.C. PORTER. Mere coincidence, or could she be a family member? I'll check on her obits and death records, too.

I'll make sure that I don't duplicate any work that the library staff is doing for you. No sense in increasing your costs unnecessarily.
