There is a record in Laurens County SC that apparently mentions your ancestor. It is just a coincidental tidbit:

SOLD GRANT, p398: 19 Mar. 1789--24 Mar 1789 Robert Box appoints three trusty friends, Adjonijah Morgan, Col. George Dohertie & Robert Camble all of Green Co,NC, his attorneys to execute deed to Thomas Davis for 100 acres of land in sd. co. entered in Washington Co. on Camp Creek on Lewis Morgan's line. Wit: Jas Cuningham(sic), John Jones, John Abercromby. John Rodgers, J.P. (Lucas Jr, Rev. Silas. Some South Carolina County Records, V.2, p.220.

This Robert Box first appeared in Washington Co. NC records in 1778 owning a 300 acre tract adjacent to John Sevier which he sold on December 21, 1778; the same day he first purchased the 100 acres on Camp Creek....although there are later entries in the North Carolina records.

George Doherty was the friend who actually executed the Power of Attorney for Robert Box.
