Patricia -

Thank you for your offer, but I actually contacted the people who own the property and they were nice enough to take pictures of Esther's headstone and mail them to me. They told me they are willing to let people go on their property to visit the cemetery which is something I would really like to do some day.

The only problem is - I have no idea what the name of this little cemetery is. I am guessing the land belonged to her husband, William Sterling O'Rear, at the time Esther died so I think I will "create" a cemetery and call it the O'Rear Family Cemetery on findagrave. I've tried to find out the name of the cemetery, but haven't had any luck so far.

From the pictures of Esther's headstone, I know that she was born on January 15, 1770 and died November 11, 1823 (one genealogy site mistakenly has her DOB as June 16, 1770, but the headstone is very easily read and indicates the date I listed above).

The headstone reads:

"To The sacred Memory of Esther Orear Daughter Of Mary & Wm S Kelly & Wife of Wm Orear who was Born the 15th of Jan 1770 & Departed this life on the 11th of Nov 1823 IN this Grave doth Lie as much Friendship as could die, which while alive did pleasure give to all With whom my wife did live."

There are probably about 30 other graves in the cemetery - most of the stones have broken. Some day I would love to go down south and try to do a rubbing on them to see if I could find the names or even the death dates and ages - that might help me identify who else is buried there. Unfortunately, I don't think I will be able to travel for several years.

I sincerely appreciate your willingness to help a stranger (me!). I would love to know the name of the cemetery as well as who else is buried there, but .. not sure I'll ever get that lucky. I believe Esther's husband, William, may be buried there and possibly their son, Benjamin Starky O'Rear.

Thank you again for your very kind offer.

Toni
