Hi Linda, it sounds like you have been reading some Civil War material (and basically what you said is true)! Yes, there was a small community called Bethpage, TN - it was located close to the north side of Elk River - near Alsonia, TN (no longer in existence). About all that is left now to mark its location is Bethpage Road/Bridge (bethpage is one word). There was a very large (3 story) mill also located there of which the ruins can still be seen. I have lived right here in Estill Springs for the past 33 years and very familiar with the area.

There is still a Bethpage Church and cemetery. There used to be an old Bethpage school house but it was destroyed when a company dug for sand close to the river. The church is now located some distance away from the original site, but as far as I know the cemetery is still in the original location. I have been meaning to take picture of all the old tombstones before they are no longer readable.

What exactly are you trying to find out? Perhaps I can be of service?

Patti Ann
