Nancy A. ASBY

Has anyone come across the name of Nancy A. Asby. She would have been born abt. 1810. I have been searching for the maiden name of one of my gg-grandmothers. On the 1850 and 1860 Cannon Co. (Bradyville District) TN census there is a David & Syntha/Cyntha BYFORD. Their names were also on the Rocky Point Church, same county, in the 1840's and her name was listed as Synthy.

I have been unable to locate a marriage date but based on the ages of the children I assume they were married around 1834 since the 1st child was born about 1836 in TN. Another child, my g-grandfather, indicated on his pension application that he grew up in Bradyville, TN.

I have resorted to trying to find death certificates to see if any had information regarding the mother's maiden name. Of the three I have located only one provided the maiden name. The fourth child of David and Cyntha was named Nancy Elizabeth BYFORD, born in 1846, and died in KS. On Nancy Elizabeth's death certificate (1922) her mother's maiden name is provided as "Nancy A. ASBY". Since this is an uncommom name I am hoping there is some validity with the maiden name. The informant also indicated she was born in TN. I have found also no information in the middle TN area regarding the name of ASBY. I did find a marriage of a Lucenta ASBY to Wm. A. JOHNSON on Oct 10, 1820 in Wilson Co. TN. Wilson Co. TN is adjacant to Cannon Co., TN. Cannon Co., TN was not created until about 1835 or 1836 and the Bradyville area was formerly a part of Rutherford Co., TN.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can provide any information regarding ASBY's in TN or any other tips.

Jim Byford
