I suspect your Stones may habve come from Montgomery/Grayson Counties, Va. I have a lot of data with Stones there from 1789 through 1820 and some still there (Carroll Co) in 1850.
No use giving you all this until we get more evidence but William and John were prominent names for these Stones and old Uriah was near.
Have you any idea if your Stones might have a Quaker heritage ?
Can you give me the names and ages of all Stone heads of households in the 1840 Cannon census ?
In 1850 Cannon was also James Stone , age 61, born ca 1789 in Virginia, likely a brother to your William. James was another name used in early Grayson.
These were all in Grayson in 1815 (tax list) -Benjamin, Micajah, Manoah, Stephen, Two Williams, two Jeremiahs.
A William, a Jeremiah and Stephen were the oldest. One William had two tithes indicating a likely son at home who was tithable. That could be your William, age about 21-22.
No proof but it looks possible.
I happemn to have these records as many of my ancestors were in these counties.
