Ken, thanks for the followup search of Stone family members earlier in time in Warren/Cannon Co. Unfortunately, I've not been successful in identifying confirmed details about William Stone's residency before the 1840 census. The only clues that I have so far is that the 1850 census records shows him to be 57 and born in VA, and a reference in a biography published in 1886 Goodspeed's History of the Ozarks Region that mentions Millie Stone Gunter in Howell Co MO and states that Stone's River in Warren Co TN was named after her father, William Stone. I recognize that those types of biographical statements can often be inaccurate, and I've assumed that a more accurate statement MIGHT have been that the Stone's River was named after Millie's Stone ancestors, rather than her father William specifically.

So, I don't know where in VA William was born, who his parents and siblings were, or when they migrated from VA into the Warren/Cannon Co TN area. I also don't know the family connections between the different Stone heads of household listed in the 1840 Cannon Co census. Your research helps me eliminate some possibilities.

John Reid
