Does anyone have any documentation for the birth family of Benjamin GILES who is in Gentry County, Missouri from at least the 1860 census until he was murdered in 1866? He and his wife Telitha (HYDEN/HYTEN/HEITEN) GILES had nine children. Teletha and many of her children stayed in Gentry County and can be found on the 1870 and 1880 censuses there.
Benjamin and Telitha GILES were in Bradley Co, TN in 1850 (24th subdivision). Enumerated just after them are a William and Rebecca GILES. That William GILES was born abt 1802. Does anyone know Benjamin's relationship to this couple?
My best information so far is that Benjamin is one of the sons of William and Polly (HOUSTON/HUSTON) GILES who migrated to Gentry County from Roane County, Tennessee beween 1850 and 1860. That William GILES was b abt 1871 in VA (or Ireland?).He is also the likely father of the William GILES (b abt 1810 in VA or AL) who married Peggy HENSLEY in Roane County, TN in 1835.
Benjamin GILES was in Roane Co in 1838; he is found listed among those serving in the Cherokee Removals. In 1840, he is in Monroe Co, TN's 24th subdivision and enumerated two households away from the William GILES b abt 1781. That William and his wife Polly are in Roane for the 1850 census. William is found in his son Houston GILES' home in Gentry Co, MO TWP 62 in the 1860 census - his wife Polly apparently having died. Besides William and Houston in TWP 62 in 1860 are John and Calvin GILES. Benjamin GILES is in TWP 61 that year.
Does anyone have further information to exchange about any of these GILES men and their relationship to one another? Does anyone have information about Polly HOUSTON/HUSTON who married William GILES? About Telitha (HYDEN/HYTEN/HEITEN) GILES?
Most of the documentation I have about all of them so far - except William and Houston - is Missouri-based and includes some census, some cemetery, and a very little military information. There is currently nothing on the Gentry County, Missouri or this Bradley Co, TN board about them. Thanks! I have found Houston GILES on the land records, and I have a copy of his death certificate. I do know, too, that Calvin GILES and his wife Susan (CARTER) GILES migrated to Saline Co, IL by 1870.
