Thank you for your post. For some reason, I did not receive an email notification of your message. I just now saw it.

Charles and Jacob Shipman WERE brothers. Charles never married. When he died in late 1876, his nieces and nephews, including the children of Jacob, were listed as the heirs in his probate. It is file #2971, Newton County Probate Court.

Charles was listed as age 42 in the 1850 Newton County census but as age 56 in the 1860 census and again as 56 in 1870 (should have read 66). The family moved from NC to KY to TN. There were siblings born in all three states.
