John McCurdy Williamson b. 1819
Posted by: Jim Williamson (ID *****3158) Date: October 16, 2012 at 13:40:39
  of 1477

Searching the counties surrounding Rutherford for the following:

John McCurdy Williamson b. 14 Feb 1819

son of (according to an old family bible)
John Williamson and Harriet McCurdy

John M. enlisted into the army for the Mexican War at Millersburg, TN in Rutherford County, and subsequently mustered into service in Nashville.
I have records for that enlistment.
Birth place for John M on census' shows Tennessee mostly, and Georgia on one.
Birthplaces listed for his parents in 1880 say father b. Ireland, mother b. South Carolina
1900 says father b. Georgia, mother b. South Carolina
No other clues for his parents so far.

The earliest census I can find John M. on is the 1870, a have a marriage record for 1863 in Illinois to Sarah 'Fox' Lee.
I have the record of enlistment for the Mexican War that puts him in Millersburg, TN on 20 Sept 1847 (states 20 years of age, making birth year 1817?)
That last is the oldest record I have.

I know there were Williamson's in the surrounding counties, so expanding the search starting with as close to Millersburg as I can.
