In Reply to: New Bedford County, TN Message Board for Rogers/Rodgers by Joyce Phillips of 1463

Linda had sent me the data written by a CLARENCE on the JOHN ROGERS/ RODGERS the Ulster Scot line of Cabarrus Co. NC.

I recently passed that on to someone who is interrelated within the MOSES WHITE Lines that connected to these very Rogers. She then passed the article by Clarence onto another person who is in the line of a " FRANCES ( Fannie ) ROGERS and husband JOSEPH ANDREW WHITE.

Joseph Andrew White b. 1761 d. Oct. 6, 1842 and was son of ARCHIBALD WHITE b. 1718 d. Nov. 11, 1800 and wife MARY SUSAN WALKER. Archibald White md. Mary Susan Walker in 1750 and they had 8 children which are listed below :

CHILDREN of ARCHIBALD WHITE & MARY SUSAN WALKER :

1. Margaret White b. 1751 d. 1804 md. JOHN WHITE
2. Samuel White b. 1753 d. Aug. 31, 1820 md. Esther McKinley
3. Martha White b. 1755 md. Hug Eadger
4. Rachel White b. 1757 md. James Walker
5. Mary White b. 1759 md. Thomas White
6. Joseph Andrew White b. 1761 d. Oct. 6, 1842 md. ( 1 ) FANNIE ROGERS ( 2. ) Mary Unknown
7. Archibald White, Jr. b. Aug. 26, 1760 d. Nov. 7, 1824 md. Isabel Eager
8. John White b. Mar. 14, 1765 d. Mar 11 1841 md. Sallie Bigger.

Archibald White the father of these children came to NC about 1764 from the data sent to me by the descendant of Joseph Andrew white and wife Fannie Rogers. All of Archibald Whites children were born by that time except fro the last son born in NC. Archibald White obtained a land grant of 1765 and descendants still have it in possession. Archibald White made a will dated Jan. 30, 1794 which was recorded in Cabarrus Co. NC in the Jan. session 1801. Martha White and her husband Hugh Eadger, returned to Pennsylvania after 1790 with his parents per this information sent to me. Another part of this information sent by same Joseph Andrew White research says this about Archibald White which is from the "History and Genealogy" ( pertaining to these two separate groups of WHITE famlies, I suppose in Cabarrus Co. NC ) Ch. 1 :

. . . " Many complications have arisen - - one, who were John and Thomas White ? They married Margaret and Mary White daughters of Archibald, and he calls them "brothers" . Who was Moses White whose wife was Margaret ? She is buried in the so-called Phifer graveyard with a tombstone giving date of death and age. Her husband made her sole executor of his will, dated March 10, 1766, and she in turn made JOSEPH RODGERS her executor in 1773. Joseph Rodgers married ISABELLE WHITE and of their children, one was named MOSES and another Margaret. "

this same page article on WHITES of CABARRUS CO. NC goes on to state, " Many years ago a descendant of both ARCHIBALD and WILLIAM Jr. told us that they were different in their speech, manners and customs. Perhaps they came from differnet sections of the British Isles. One may have been ENGLISH and the other from SCOTLAND.. . . Both Families were Presbyterian and served as Elders in Rocky River Church in its earliest years. . . . .Some of the WHITE families moved to Tennessee and Georgia. They were mostly of the second and third generations. Thrree of the sons of Samuel White moved to Tennessee and Mississippi. Rachel White Walker and all her family went to Tennessee, settling in Bedford County."

Also, another researcher seems to be working on the lines of WALKER who intermarried perhaps with this ARCHIBALD WHITE line in NC and they may have gone into RUTHERFORD CO. TN, I believe she stated. I was most interested in our ROGERS in Montgomery Co. NC who also had WALKERS as neighbors and on our ROGERS land deeds as CHAINCARRIERS for them in about 1801-1804 Montgomery Co. NC ( which was then next to CABARRUS CO. NC ). By 1841, that land our Rogers lived on in Montgomery Co. NC was then taken into form what is today STANLY CO. NC.

Our Rogers, as you may know, were first found in the 1774 Anson Co. NC Petitions and later by 1779 had entered their land they had lived on for some time in MONTGOMERY CO. NC Court House files. ANSON CO. NC upper end had been split off to create what was then Montgomery Co. NC and our Rogers then had to enter their land in Montgomery Co., as it had been Anson Co. NC from 1750-1779. Unknown is how long our James Rogers, Sr. and son James Rogers, Jr. had been in NC but in the STANLY CO. NC Library files it stated that our JAMES ROGERS, Sr. b. bet. 1700-1720 was either the son or brother of JOHN ROGERS/ RODGERS the ULSTER SCOT of CABARRUS CO. NC. Perhaps so, but so far we cannot prove that is correct. Some seem to list that JOHN ROGERS, the ULSTER SCOT of CABARRUS CO. N C perhaps was born abt. 1710 making him close to the same age as our own JAMES ROGERS, Sr. b. bet. 1700-1720. So to me if they are related, they most likely would have been of the age to be brothers and not father and son. ALSO LISTED on that 1774 Anson Co. NC Petition was JOHN ROGERS and I will copy it below for those interested. We have no JOHN ROGERS of the age to have been the one to have signed this petition in 1774, so perhaps he might be JOHN ROGERS/ RODGERS the ULSTER SCOT who later is indentified being in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Co. NC. Haveing arrived in 1732 from PENNSYLVANNIA, it is said JOHN RODGERS/ ROGERS the ULSTER SCOT is the father of the first baby born in the ROCKY RIVER SETTLEMENT area. Many of our ROGERS, ROWLANDS, GREENS also signed the ROCKY RIVER Petition of Cabarrus Co. NC in about 1800, as their land was in Montgomery Co. NC but some of the land must have bordered the ROCKY RIVER as well. So we know that by 1793 our JAMES ROGERS, Jr. and son WILLIAM ROGERS were also listed on the MELCHIOR STORE LEDGER list of that store which was located near or in Mt. Pleasant in CABARRUS CO. NC, during the time our Rogers then lived in Montgomery Co. NC along Long Creek. This is all virtually the same area in NC and so many from various counties to Cabarrus Co. NC would shop at the MELCHIOR Store for hardware and other supplies in the late 1700's. We know too that many of our Montgomery Co. NC families intermarried with those other famiies who lived then in Cabarrus Co. NC and later on many migrated in our lines out of Montgomery Co. NC into Carroll Co. TN ( western TN ) by about 1822-1824.

Many of the ROGERS Families who trace back into those counties of ANSON, CABARRUS, MECKLENBURG, MONTGOMERY, STANLY, ROWAN Co's NC all seem to have the same naming patterns. Could it be we are looking at one large group of ROGERS families out of JOHN ROGERS/ RODGERS the ULSTER SCOT Who is considered to be the first white settler of that region of NC ? I think so, but we need a lot more information from other ROGERS too who may trace back into those NC Counties menioned previously.
