Many UFT users were having technical support problems (including damaged data sets) which were not being addressed and that promised to get worse (and did) after the discontinuation of the product. Meanwhile, TMG users were eager for an update but are not at risk of losing their data. As Lissa said, if you were one of those UFT users, I suspect that you'd be a little less indignant about our decision to delay v5.0 in order to provide you with an outlet.

Every person in our office has duties related to the release of TMG v5.0. Suggesting an e-mail campaign, as you did, could not possibly get the product done any faster. It will have the exact opposite effect.

It seems odd? Every developer has priorities and a niche market that it serves. By every objective observer, TMG is the most powerful and flexible product on the market. Other programs have nicer interfaces but are missing dozens of TMG's features. Show me the product that does it all and I'll buy a copy. If it existed, I'd guess that you'd be using it by now too.

Our strategy is to maintain our product's reputation for scholarship, data integrity, and flexibility and to upgrade the interface as quickly as we can do so given those other priorities. There are many software companies with the opposite priorites. There are many others that sold out to one with deeper products in an effort to bring more resources to bear on development. And there are many users who encouraged such strategies and who are now sorry that most of the small developers have been driven out of business or their products discontinued. Ask any UFT user.
