I picked up Dr Samuel Tittle's father from Ancestry.com so I am sorry I cannot give you any proof as to his father.I have mostly worked on my fathers direct line on the Tittle surname.
I have picked up several things regarding Anthony in my research that I have not proven.I will list them here, perhaps to help you or someone else and they will give us our answer:
Anthony Tittle was probably born about 1740 in England or Pennsylvania. Burial near Smithville, TN which is now in DeKalb County; grave has not been found. One source indicates he was a revolutionary soldier under General Jackson; signed Oath of Allegiance in Henry County, VA where he lived - on Goblintown Creek; he was a Planter.
Deed Records of Patrick & Henry Co., VA show Anthony Tittle and his sons lived on Goblintown Creek in 1790. The Hicks, Tittles, Smiths and Coffee families lived together near Short Mountain on that Creek 10 miles Northwest between McMinnville and Smithville (originally Tittle Creek, now Mountain Creek). This from paper that was copied from Nashville, TN Archives.
If Anthony Tittle married in Virginia in 1783, I do not believe Anthony could be the father of the 'Dr' Samuel Tittle unless there was a previous marriage. Samuel Tittle was in the Census of 1820 and 1830 in Smith Co., TN. A deed shows him in Cannon Co., TN where he died in 1838; leaving his wife Susannah (born 1772, who was she?) and children Anthony, Samuel, Jr. Adam, Robert, Hyram Young, Elizabeth (m. Owen), Sernea (m. Dutton), and Sabrena (m. Jonas Nokes).
Who were the parents of Samuel Tittle, SR.? Is father Anthony Tittle of Wilson Co., TN or of Henry Co., VA?
