I am looking at this individual as I understand that he might be related in some way to my gggrandfather, Charles Claiborne Reid, b. 1831 LA. From what I can tell, the Tipton family may have been in the Rapides Parish, LA for a time and then traveled to Polk Co., TX in the 1840's. Edward was married to a Charity (maybe Lewis)as I find him listed on the 1850 Polk Co census and 1860 Sumpter, Trinity Co census. Per the 1870 Pennington, Trinity co. census he is married to a Susan. He and a John Marsh were appointed by the court to appraise the REID estate in 1848 as REID was a minor and had been appointed a guardian at that time. Marsh remained in the Colita, Polk Co location, but Edward Tipton and REID families were in the same 3 locations 1850, 1860 & 1870. Edward's parents, Eli and Margaret both b.TN) who were also in Polk Co 1850. Claiborne REID/REED/READ's parents supposedly died in Rapides Parish, LA mid 1840's and we have nothing as to who they were. In tracing individuals mention in the guardianship papers 1848/1849 Polk Co., TX, it seems that the Tipton, Marsh, Poindexter and Mainer/Maner families stuck together and intermarried. My REID was found involved with these families in the Polk & Trinity county areas. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated in helping solve this mystery.
