Major Jonathan Tipton III b.1750 - Updated Info.

There are several sites that have incorrect information about Major Jonathan Tipton III. He was in fact a Revolutionary War veteran and one of the heroes of King's Mountain. The DAR recognizes him appropriately.

Major Jonathan Tipton III DID NOT SERVE AT ALL WITH GENERAL GEORGE WASHINGTON, as several people have posted. He DID serve with and alongside LT. COLONEL WILLIAM WASHINGTON (a distant cousin of George Washington).

Numerous Rev. War pension applications, including that of Major Tipton and others who served under him and with him prove conclusively that he served strictly in NC (including part of what is now TN) and SC, in the southern theater of the war only. He was NEVER in the North during the war, and NEVER served under George Washington.

If you have a website posting about this, please correct it. You will help avoid misinforming people for generations to come.
