I am trying to find further information about my ancestor, James Grant, who was b. in Adairsville, Kentucky ca. the early 1800's.

How do I find out his parents' names as I'm an amateur researcher?

Please advise and thanks, in advance, for any useful genealogical tips that can help me to uncover his parents.
