Tippen Family name

Greetings,

I am curious about the origins of the Tippen name. I have seen references indicating that the spelling of "Tippen" is one of a multitude of phonetic renderings of the surname that has its origins in England. Others associated with it are: Tipping, Phippen, and Thigpen, to name just a few. I would like to hear your thoughts on this.

Allen Thigpen
