Penny,
There was so much name ambiguity among the early TINNINs, that without at least approximate dates and locations, much uncertainty and misunderstanding will arise. Here is what I show for the only Lemuel TINNIN I know about:
Lemuel TINNIN (c1785NC-1834TN) m.1810 Elizabeth WALTON
They were married in Sumner Co. TN.
The data I have is taken from the very well researched book:
"Thomas Thompson and Ann Finney of Colonial Penn and N.C." by Jane Gray Buchanan.
Lemuel and Elizabeth are said to have had at least 6 children:
Catherine, Mary, Sebella (married Enoch CUNNINGHAM), Josiah W, Enoch, and John Hugh.
Note that Josiah was one of their children.I have no locations, dates or spouses for any of these, but they would have probably been in their 40s in 1861.
Lemuel had a brother named Hugh who was born about 1786 in Sumner Co.
He married ELIZABETH HARRIS 30 Jan 1814 in Cape Girardeau Co. MO.The only one of their children I know about was named Azariah.
If you think you somehow tie back to this Lemuel, or his brother Hugh, then you'll want to know that he was son of:
Hugh TINNIN (c1748PA-20 Dec 1794TN) and Sibella THOMPSON (b. c1749).
Sibella was daughter of Lawrence THOMPSON and Sarah FINNEY.
That Hugh TINNIN was a son of the John TINNIN who died in Orange Co. NC some time between 1800 and 1804.In Oct. 1800, he deeded "the greater part of" his estate to son Alexander, with a stipulation that money was to go Sibella TINNIN, widow of Hugh TINNIN.
I hope this helps.Even if this isn't your Lemuel, please let me know more about him -- locations, dates, spouse, children.Maybe by use of Census data, I can help show where he belongs in the TINNIN tree.
