1. Sylvester Tinker, Osage Principal Chief - correct lineage 2. Unidentifed Tinker who may have fled to Southeast 3. Other Sylvester Tinkers Source for information, direct family knowledge, plus: Louis F. Burns, Turn of The Wheel: A Genealogy of the Burns & Tinker Families, 1980. This book can probably be found in several libraries. (1) Sylvester Tinker, Osage Principal Chief - lineage -Sylvester Tinker (1903-1991) -Son of Frank Tinker (b. 1862) and Mary Louisa Revard -Son of William H. Tinker (full name George "William" Henry Harrison Tinker)(b. 1840) and Lucille Lessert. -Son of George Tinker (b. 1913) by his first wife Lucretia La Chapelle. -Son of Jonathan Tinker (b. 1788) and Lucinda Lewis. The Burns book gives probable earlier ancestry of Jonathan Tinker. Sylvester Tinker's father, Frank Tinker, was first cousin to my grandmother, Genevieve Tinker Dyer (making Sylvester her first cousin once removed). Frank's father, William H. Tinker, was half-brother to my grandmother's father, George Edward Tinker (George Tinker's son by his third wife Genevieve Revard, also called Jane Conway). Sylvester was part of my grandmother's "cousins" family. (2) The Burns book (pp. 152-154) lists all the children of George Tinker--that is, William H., George Edward, and their siblings. William H. Tinker's full brother Augustus (b. 1852) is listed with the following speculative note (p. 153): Augustus shows on the Osage Annuity Rolls of 1871, alone; of 1872, one man and one woman; of 1873, alone. After 1873, he no longer shows on any record. . . .He might have had to leave suddenly or died, although no record has been found. Recently a Tinker in Southeaster U.S. has claimed he is a descendant of an Osage Tinker who had to flee to save his life. (no further information)" (3) George Tinker (b. 1813), the common ancestor, was one of many siblings siblings (2 of them male, to pass the name). At that time the Tinkers were already a huge family. The Burns book lists two additional, earlier, Sylvester perhaps closer to your lineage: Tinkers in Appendix F (The First Six Generations of Tinkers): -Sylvester Tinker (generation 6), b. 1774, son of Silas Tinker (ancestors--John, Amos, Amos, Amos) -Sylvester Tinker (generation 5), b. 1772, son of Phinehas Tinker (ancestors John, Amos, Amos) -This 1772 Sylvester, son on Phinehas, had a brother, Lee, b. 1831. These names seem to link up with the lineage you were working with. So--my information doesn't help establish the missing link you're looking for: It just makes it more "lost". But at least you'll have Chief Sylvester's correct genealogy, and maybe some other leads. Notify Administrator about this message?
