Hello there!
Betty Tincher was born on October 21, 1838 in Indiana, according to what I have in my records. She died on December 3, 1926, and was buried next to Jehu in the Huron cemetery, Lawrence County, Indiana. Betty's parents died before she was grown, and my ancestors, John Johnson and his wife Sarah Barnes, finished raising her. I do not know when her mother Esther died, but it had to be before 1850 as the census shows Betty already living with the Johnson family. Her dad Joseph died November 13, 1848. The only date I have on Esther Shelton is when she married Joseph, which you already have. Three of Betty's brothers also were not grown when their parents died, and then they were farmed out to live with friends and relatives.
This is what I have on Joseph Tincher; he was a son of William Hamilton Tincher and his wife, Mary Barker. They were, like my family, early settlers of of Spice Valley Towmship. They came from Madison Co., Kentucky, and Mary was a daughter of Elias Barker who was a pioneer with Daniel Boone in Kentucky. You may already have this information.
Betty was born in Indiana, but Jehu and all his siblings were born in Burke Co., North Carolina. He was born December 6, 1822, and died on January 1, 1906.
Betty and Jehu were married September 13, 1853,and this is what I have concerning their children, all born in Lawrence County, Indiana, in Spice Valley Township, close to Huron and Bryantsville;
Leatha, born 1855
Sarah, b. July 7, 1858
Hulda, b. about 1859
Aaron, b. January 25, 1862
Emma, b. about 1867
Mary Jane, b. July 18, 1869
Alfred, b. March 31,1871
Flora, b. April 14, 1873
Laura, February 27, 1875
Elizabeth, b. about 1877
Carrie Luffie, b. in Feburary, 1878
Bertha E., b. April 24,1879
Nancy A., B. April 29, 1885
We THINK it was Jehu who was the one who helped my grandpa build a log cabin as a wedding present when he and grandma got married in 1893. The cabin still exists. Jehu's sister Rachel was my great-grandmother. My family was quite acquainted with Jehu and Betty's daughter Bertha. She married Dora Dorsett, and their children were in school with my parents.
I will now go to my E-mail and send you the photo of Aunt Betty Tincher.
