David,
Here is some of the info I promised you.I hope you do not mind me responding on the forum opposed to your e-mail.This way, others can also see the response and maybe get info from it that they were looking for, or at least find some of the info on our Tincher family intersting.I am providing you info here on Robert M. Tincher and his immediate family.More info will be posted on his parents, etc. soon....
Robert M. Tincher (Hamilton, William, Samuel)
b. 1817;d.c.1869 Iroquois County, IL
md. 09/08/1844 Sarah Nora Justice, in Jennings Co, IN
Sarah born 1827/1829, d. 07/10/1897 Iroquois Co, IL
Robert is first shown on the 1850 Census, for Jefferson Co, IN with wife Sarah, and the following children:
1. William R Tincher, b. 1844
2. Maranda Tincher, b. 11/01/1846
3. Henry G Tincher, b. 03/30/1848
4. Mary Tincher, b. 1850
This Robert Tincher and family were one of the siblings that "moved" around, but during the Civil War, we find William R., the oldest son, as well as the father, settling down to the business of war.We can also find, on the pension records for the family, three more children with one, Mary (above) either deceased or married and on her own.
These additional children are:
5. Sara Jane Tincher, b. 08/05/1852
6. John L Tincher, b. 07/08/1854
7. Francis M Tincher, b. 05/03/1858
Robert was a Pvt. in Co. C., 37th Reg., Indiana Vols, enrolling 09/18/1861 at Camp Dearborn. He was sick in quarters much of the enlistment time, but also convalescing at home.At one such time he was charged as a "deserter"...he was, however, acquitted as per G.O. No. 5, 1864... "charge of absence without leave is removed...the period for which he was reported AWOL comes within that for which he was tried as a desrter and acquitted."He was mustered out with this same company at Indianapolis, 10/27/1864.
1. William R Tincher (Robert M, Hamilton, William, Samuel)
b. 1844; d. 12/07/1862
This oldest son of Robert and Sarah J Tincher no doubt wanted to join, either to be with his father, or because of his father.William enrolled, under age, 03/01/1862 at Otterville, MO, to serve three years. However, he was killed in action at the Battle of Prairie Grove, AR...official records reporting..."he was in action at that place on said date"...We would call him a soldier for just a short time.
The pension due the son, was one of the main sources of support for Robert and Sarah Tincher; the former being in poor health.Sarah moved to Newton Co, IN after her husband's return from the war and then on to Iroquois Co, IL, perhaps in search of a better clime.
While no exact date of death has been recorded for Robert M Tincher in this book, we do know Sara Justice Tincher died 07/10/1897.
3. Henry Tincher (Robert M, Hamilton, William, Samuel)
b. 03/30/1848; d. ?
md. Mary "Mollie" Graves on 06/04/1870 in Jennings Co, IN
Children of Henry and Mollie G. Tincher:
1. Margaret "Maggie" Tincher, b. 1872
2. Guy Tincher, b. 1876
3. Jennie Tincher, b. 11/1879
7. Francis M Tincher (Robert M, Hamilton, William, Samuel)
b. 05/03/1858; d. ?
md. May Groves on 08/12/1901 in Fountain Co, IN; May was b. 1881, dau of David and Sarah (Bell) Groves
David, all of the above information is, of course, from the Tincher Tribe. As you can see, some of the dates that Lois Tincher Dorsey provide in the book are different from what you may have, which has been also noted by other persons in other cases, as well. However, much of the information that Lois has in the book, as the info on Robert above, is priceless.
Hope this info is helpful to you.I will provide info on Robert's parents, etc in the future.
Thanks...Gregg
