I read your posting of October 26 2004 and noted the paragraphs relating to Muiris MacMurrough-Kavanagh and the hiring of Gabhal Siomoin of the O'Byrnes in Co. Wicklow.
A history of the O'Byrnes is being compiled at the moment with a view to being published later this year. Daniel Byrne-Rothwell is doing the compiling and you may wish to write to him to find out more about this. Daniel is already aware of you and your possible link to the O'Byrnes, as he mentioned this to me today and asked me to contact you as he does not have e-mail.
His address is:
Daniel Byrne-Rothwell
West View
54 Woodbourne Rd
Warley Woods
West Midlands
B67 5LZ
His phone number is 0121 429 9241 mob: 07551646398
Daniel informed me that the family name Timmins may have been derived from Coltimmon (or Coult Simons, or Coult-tSimons in Gaelic) ... "hill of the Byrnes".
If you want to have your DNA tested, there is a very good testing agency you can refer to at (FTDNA). FTDNA has a Burns/Byrne Project where I had my dna tested to see if I had links to the Wicklow Clan. My family was first recorded as occupying Clara Castle, in Co.Kilkenny so I was interested to find I had matches (somewhat distant) with other Byrne descendants of the old Wicklow Clan. I can tell you more about this if you're interested. You can e-mail me at
FTDNA has a Timmons/Timmins dna project already. If you turn out to be a branch of the O'Byrnes then your dna will probably start showing up on the the individual FTDNA Byrne Clan participants websites. You can find out more about this by googling FTDNA and entering Timmons/Timmins in Search on the home page (or Burns/Byrne if you want to see more about that project).
