I'm trying to positively identify my g.g. g. grandmother, and her line going back. I found an article in an 1890 newspaper interviewing my g. aunt (Mary F. McCormick), where she states that her mother was NANCY TIMBERLAKE, b. about 18l06 in VA.,. daughter of HARFIELD TIMBERLAKE, b. Arpil or June 13, 1770 in VA. My g. aunt's brother (my g.g. grandfather) was named Harfield McCormick, and Harfield remains a family first and middle name to my generation. I have verified that Brockenbrough McCormick was indeed Mary and Harfield McCormick's father, although their mother has been named as both "Ann" and "Nancy" Timberlake. I have also verified that Harfield Timberlake was Harfield and Mary McCormick's grandfather. Then I get stuck. I have found sources saying that Harfield Timberlake was the son of Richard Timberlake and Frances Harfield. However, at that point there are seemingly credible websites with seemingly credible documentation, but which have differing dates and places of birth for both. My Harfield Timberlake seems to have come from one of two couples named Richard Timberlake and Frances Harfield: 1) Richard, born Aug 19, 1726 in Middlesex Co., VA, with Frances Harfield b. 1804, King William, VA (documented from Barbara Timberlake's "Descendants of Francis Timberlake;" and "Will of Francis Timberlake"; -- or -- 2) Richard b. 1710 England, and Frances Harfield b. Sep 26, 1727 in England (documented from a letter by John S. Timberlake on April 2, 1890 and published on several websites; an article researched and written by Mario do Valdes Y Cocom and published at the pbs.org website; a posting to this forum on Arpil 20, 2000 by Larry Blackman). This family is so well known and documented, that I'm hoping someone will be able to give me correct and definitive information, with documentation sources I can confidently cite, or point me in the direction to find them. Sorry this is long, and THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for any help you might be able to give. Sincerely, Barbara Langston Notify Administrator about this message?
