Hi, Jay.Richard Timberlake had three children by his first wife, whose given name was Mary and whose surname was probably Curd.According to the Douglas Register, there was a marriage December 22, 1759, of a Richard Timberlake ("Timberlick") and a Mary Curd, and I think this was Richard Timberlake of Louisa County, Virginia, born ca. 1739, a son of Phillip Timberlake, Sr.Richard and Mary had three children: (i) John Timberlake, born ca. 1761, (ii) Sarah Timberlake, born ca. 1764, and (iii) Phillip Timberlake, born ca. 1766.Quite likely, Richard Timberlake and his family accomplished the move from Louisa County to Bedford County, Virginia, about in 1770.Richard purchased 200 acres on Ivy Creek in Bedford on May 24, 1771.On February 20, 1775, Richard married, second, Sarah (or "Sally") Dougherty in Bedford County. It appears that Mary had died by this time. With Sarah, Richard had one child:Elizabeth (or "Betsy") Timberlake, born ca. 1776.According to Lucy Harrison Miller Baber and Hazel Letts Williamson, Marriages of Campbell County, Virginia, 1782-1810, p. 16, Sarah Timberlake married Thomas Butler on October 2, 1783, in Campbell County.Campbell came into existence February 1, 1782, when it was carved out of the eastern part of Bedford. If, as you say, Thomas Butler was born in 1758 in Bedford, he might not have moved at all between then and 1783.About in the spring of 1789, Richard Timberlake and his family moved to Madison County, Kentucky.Richard's name is on a Madison County tax list for 1789, where we find that there were two white males over the age of 21.One of them was Richard himself, and the other was his son-in-law, Thomas Butler.Richard Timberlake's will, which was probated May 5, 1795, mentions his wife Sarah, his daughter Sally, and his two sons, Phillip and John. The executors were to be his son-in-law, Thomas Butler, and Betsy (Timberlake) Gentry's father-in-law, Martin Gentry.According to an e-mail message that I received from Lanita Murray ([email protected]), Sarah was the first wife of Thomas Butler. After she died, Thomas married, second, Rachel McDaniel. You mention a manuscript by William Harris Miller that apparently concerns this Timberlake family.I am unfamiliar with this, but I will put it on my list of things to look up.I know about a book by Miller entitled History and Genealogies of the Families of Miller, Woods, Harris, Wallace, Maupin, Oldham, Kavanaugh, and Brown. This isn't what you meant by a "manuscript," was it?Thanks for replying to my message.Larry
