I need information on James McCown Tilford who was a graduate of Cumberland University and the first director or headmaster of Boiling Spring Academy in Williamson Co., now Brentwood, in 1833. The school opened for students 14 January 1833 but was established in 1830. In June 1831, a meeting was called for the subscribers to the school and Meeting House which indicates it was a church & I think Cumberland Presbyterian. A biographical sketch of Tilford might reveal whether Boiling Spring was both an academy and a church. The building still stands on corner of Moore's Lane & Wilson Pike in Brentwood in Primm Park beside the Fewkes Indian Mound site. I need to know Tilford's birth & death dates and where he went after he left Boiling Spring Academy. Thank you so much. Virginia (Ginny) Watson
