I am not sure about either of the answers to your questions. I have found the information below, but I am not even sure if it is the same Alice Tighe, as the birth dates would be about five years off. If they are the same person, it indicates that Alice came directly to the US. I understand that many people came to Canada first as the jouney did not take as long and the ticket costs were lower. In any event, here is the additional information that I have. New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 about Alice Tighe Name: Alice Tighe Arrival Date: 1 Oct 1853 Estimated birth year: abt 1835 Age: 18 Gender: Female Port of Departure: Sligo Destination: United States of America Place of Origin: Ireland Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Irish Ship Name: Linden Search Ship Database: Search the Linden in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database Port of Arrival: New York Line: 31 Microfilm Serial: M237 Microfilm Roll: M237_132 List Number: 1020 Port Arrival State: New York Port Arrival Country: United States Source Citation: Year: 1853; Arrival: New York , United States; Microfilm serial: M237; Microfilm roll: M237_132; Line: 31; List number: 1020.
