I did a little sleuthing on Nathan TIGER.From your post, it's not clear how much you already knew about his family background, so none of this might actually be revelatory for you.
I found your William TIGER living with his parents, Nathan and Jane TIGER, in the 1880 Tewksbury Township, Hunterdon County, NJ census. They can be found living in the same township in 1870; Nathan's occupation is listed as "blacksmith."I'm not sure where is Nathan during the 1860 census, but I believe I found him as a 12-year-old child living with his parents in the 1850 census (still Tewksbury Township). This was on page 288.Nathan's father is listed as Asa TIGER (b. abt 1808) and mother Mary A. (b. abt 1811).Nathan has siblings Matilda, Peter, and Mary.
Living near by them is John TIGER (b. abt 1802) with wife Rachel (b. abt 1800) and children Peter, Labert (sp?), and Mary Jane. Also living near by (p. 282) is Abraham TIGER (b. abt 1777) with his (second?) wife Ellen (b. abt 1798) and what looks to be like a son from an earlier marriage for Abraham, Jacob (b. abt 1801) and his wife Eliz (b. abt 1815) and children Ellen, Abraham, Sinah (sp?), Margaret, and Harmon.
It seems likely that Abraham TIGER is either the father or uncle of Asa TIGER.Based upon the research of others, Abraham was the son of Jacob TIGER and Anna Marie GERTROUD, Jacob being the progenitor of this TIGER line in New Jersey.I also descend from this line, but through Abraham's brother, Jacob TIGER.
So, in conclusion, it would appear that Nathan TIGER is the son of Asa TIGER, who is the son of Abraham TIGER, who is the son of Jacob TIGER and Anna Marie GERTROUD.
Sincerely,
Noel
