Joe,

The information provided to you by Brent Tifft in his reply of September 8, 2000 seems to be confirmed by data in the 1880 census.

270B 43 . . 17 18 Tifft Robert C. W M 65 . . . x . . Saloonist . . . . . . . . . . Ny Ny Ny .
270B 44 . . 17 18 Tifft Ann W F 56 . Wife . x . . Keeping House . . . . . . . . . . Ny Ny Ny .
270B 45 . . 17 18 Tifft Frank W M 22 . Son x . . . Keeps Livery . . . . . . . . . . Wis Ny Ny .
270B 46 . . 17 18 Tifft Ella W F 17 . Daughter x . . . At Home . . . . . . . 8 . . Wis Ny Ny .

The above comes from page 270B, lines 43-46 (incl) of
CENSUS YEAR: 1880 STATE: IA COUNTY: O'Brien DISTRICT: Village of Primghar ENUM/DISTR: 158 ENUMERATED: On 18 June by Thos Scott

The son "Frank" listed here must be the same as "Francis" of Brent's message.

The son Robert K. of whom Brett has spoken was by 1880 married to Edith E. Wooster, had had two sons, and is listed elsewhere in the census.

Note that the major difference between this data and that which Brent provided is that the 1880 census says that Ella (as well as Frank) was born in Wisconsin.
