I have the following info on John Tierney. He was born in 1809 and died Aug. 17, 1901. His wife was Bridget Mullen and she was born in 1815 and died Dec. 9, 1893. They were both born in Galway, Ireland and came to America sometime before 1852 because their son James Tierney was born in WV. Bridget was married in Ireland to John Cosgrove and had 3 children John, Festus and Mary. John Cosgrove died, she married John Tierney and they brought the 3 children with them to America. As far as I know, they had only one child together and that was my gr grandfather James Tierney born 1852 and died 1927. His wife was Honora Hushion born 1860 died 1922. Their home was at Fink, WV in Lewis County (or maybe Doddridge Co....close to the line) The house is still there.
I found something interesting but have not determined if these people are the same but there was a ship called the Victoria that sailed from Limerick, Ireland to New York Aug 23, 1851. The names John Tierney, Bridget Mullin and Bridget Lynch (my other gr gr grandmother) were all on the passenger list just haven't taken the time to research whether or not it's them.
From what I understand, Tierney is a very common Irish name so that makes doing research somewhat difficult. Hope this info is helpful.
Do you know what year your gr gr grandmother was born? If 1844 that would have made her the right age to be on that ship.........there were five Bridgets on the list but none with the last name Tierney.
Good Luck! Mary
