Conway is a very common name on Tipperary Hill in Syracuse NY. It is also a name that is related to me. I was born and raised on Tipperary Hill and am familiar with many Conways and Maroneys as well. My parents were Jim and Marian Welch Tierney, my granparents were Patrick and Margaret Farrell Tierney and my g-grandparents were John and Judy(Johana)Hogan Tierney. I am quite certain that Judy and John were married in Thurles, Co Tipperary, and I am certain that is where the Hogans originated. I cannot find out the origination of John Tierney however and that really has be "bugged." Have you noticed how many John Tierneys there are out there? He may have been from Ballylooby, who knows?
For you and the information I have - the Conways are descendants of Johanna Gleason who married Jack Conway. Johanna Gleason is the daughter of Katherine (Kitty) Hogan who is the sister of my g-grandmother. William Conway who was the son of Jack married Dorothy Murnane and they had 5 children. All of these people lived on Tipperary Hill at one time or another and at least through the 1960's.
Unfortionatly I am not aware of any "specifics" re. Stephen Maroney, his brother, nor Mary Ann Tierney.
Any (Winifred) Hogan married a Patrick Lacy, they had 2 kids and 3 grandkids one of which married a William Maroney who hard one son and 2 grandkids,Eileen and William M.
Please keep in touch as there are too many things in common here for there not to be a match somewhere. Good Luck with your search, Jim Tierney
