MRS. SARAH O’NEILL
Sarah Tierney, wife of the late Thomas O’Neill, died at her home, 166 Lake street, early Tuesday morning.The deceased was a native of Ireland, in which country in 1839 she married Thomas O’Neill.Mr. and Mrs. O’Neill sailed from Limerick, Ireland, for Quebec, making the journey in four weeks, a remarkably quick trip in those days.They located at Bytown, Ontario, now the city of Ottawa.Ten years later they came to Ogdensburg, where they continued to reside until the death of Mr. O’Neill, which occurred twelve years ago.Mr.O’Neill was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in the 142nd Regiment, Co. C., N.Y.V.Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. O’Neill, four of whom are now living.The children were Mrs. James Lightfoot, Mrs. Allen Fraser, William O’Neill, of this city; John O’Neill of Chicago; Timothy, Thomas, James and Annie O’Neill, the four last named being dead.Besides the four children mentioned, Mrs. O’Neill is survived by two brothers who reside in Canada, and three sister, viz: Mrs. John Brophy of Napanee, Ont;Mrs. Thomas fuller who resides in Iowa, and Mrs. Edward Burns of this city.Mrs. O’Neill’s age was 78 years, 11 months and 12 days.
