MRS. MARGARET TIERNEY
Gouverneur, March 24. - Mrs. Margaret Tierney, one of the oldest and best known residents of this village died shortly before midnight last night, after a long illness resulting from two distinct shocks, aged 89 years and 11 months.
Mrs. Tierney was born in Ireland April 21, 1821, the daguther of Daniel and Margaret Dougherty.The family came to this coountry and located in Hammond when Margaret Dougherty was a small child, the country then being a dense wilderness.
Seventy-five years ago she was married to Lawrence Tierney, who died twelve years ago.Upwards of 50 years they resided on a farm three miles out of Rossie village on the lead mine road.Twenty-five years ago they moved to this village, where Mrs. Tierney had since resided.
She is survived by three daughters, Miss Sarah Tierney, Mrs. Maria Mahoney and Mrs. Hannah O'Brien, all of this village; two sons, John Tierney of Rossie, and William Tierney of this village;two brothers, John Dougherty of Hammond, and Hames Dougherty of Syracuse; and one sister, Mrs. William Adner of Port Leyden
The funeral will be held from St. James Catholic church Saturday at 9 a.m.Interment will be in the Catholic cemetery at Rossie
