Dear Cahir,
I'm sorry I haven't come across any definite link to the Ballyscandland Tierneys. My James Tierney (brother to Thomas - uncle of George the Whig MP)wrote out his Will in 1780 at Brighthelmstone where Sir Edward was seated but this is about the same time Edward was born so I can't be sure if John Tierney was living there at that time or if the place is just a coincidence.
At James Tierneys death in 1780 the same hereldic arms were used on his tomb as were granted to Michael Tierney, but I have a note to say these arms were long used by the Tierneys before 1748.
There is a link between my Tierneys & the Roches of Limerick. David Roche sometime Mayor of Limerick married Mary Jean Tierney, daughter of George.
My James Tierney had a brother George who resided in Naples Italy & died unmarried 1787 leaving his estate to his neieces & nephews - George Roche (of Bristol?)his nephew was an executor. I assume this is the child of his sister Mary Jean.
As I am in Australia & have lack of resources here I can only guess George Tierney was father of James, Thomas, George & Mary Jean, other brothers named in the Will were Michael & Edmond. There was no John mentioned to be a brother.
I do not know if this will be any help to you but George named some cousins as being Thomas Maly (I think, hard to read)of Limerick & cousin Mary who married George Brown & cousin Jane who married George Fibbius.
If there is a link with the Ballyscandland Tierneys it must be with George Tierney senior.
Please think of me if you find links between these families.
Kind regards
Kerrie
