Well this is probably a tenuous link at best but since Tierney represents a dead-end for me I'll supply what I have in hopes that perhaps you'll discover some information that, so far, I've been unable to do.
Catherine Tierney (b. c. 1834 Co. Louth, Ireland, d. c. 1865, NY, NY) married Charles McBurney (b. c. 1834 NY, NY, d. c. 1865 NY, NY) they had one child, John Henry McBurney (my great grandfather) born 4 Dec 1855.Some time around 1865 John Henry was taken (I would assume by a relative) to live in LeRoy, NY after the death of his parents.I have no idea what happened to his parents but I would assume they died in one of the periodic epidemics that characterized that era.
It strikes me that the similarities to your information have to be more than a simple coincidence. As I said, the McBurney/Tierney linage is a brick wall for me.I've worked with a couple of sources in Ireland in an attempt to find more information but with no success. This is especially frustrating since my maternal ancestors were holding a bake sale when Columbus landed. What information I have is on my web site at http://www.nrmcburney.net/Mac/Genealogyhttp://www.nrmcburney.net/Mac/Genealogy
Please keep me in mind if you uncover anymore information.
Good luck.
Mac
