Wow! Here's a real coincidence and my how names remain the same. We also are looking for a Laurence Tierney (exact spelling) b. Abt 1816 in Ireland and immigrated before 1850 to America. He married Mary Eleanor LaVelle (Lovel) in 1862 in Richmond VA and worked in Governmental Confederate Laboratory. Except for this appears not be any trace of him in the Censuses for at least VA. His Parents were Paul and Bridget Tierney perhaps of Clare Co, Ireland.
