Hi Paula
apologies for replying via Genforum but my email gets diverted from my office to home and doesn't always give the mailers address.
Peak House is Newbury Registry office on Newton Rd Newbury. All births, marriages and deaths for they area are recorded there. There is no public access to records but the staff are brilliant. My husband dropped off requests at 9.30am today and they called at 11.45 to say the certs were ready for collection.
The certs we had requested were
birth Edward Tidbury b 17/2/1871 stroud green.
mother was Elizabeth formerly leach father was James Tidbury b 1843 all now confirmed
Marriage Edward Tidbury b 17/2/1871 married Alice Ellen Parker b 1870. addresses at time of marriage were Edward - The Folly Greenham and Alice St Johns Villa Newbury. at the time of the marriage 6/7/1895 fathers of both were deceased. edwards father was James Tidbury Blacksmith and Alices was George Parker Bricklayer. They were married at St John the Evangelist newbury (bombed during wwII and re built as St Johns). Witnesses to the marriage were ? Parker and Rosaina Eliza Shave.
I have done some further checking on this line and come up with the following
1901 Census 9 The Folly Greenham
Edward Tidbury Married, Head, age 30, b 1871 Born Greenham, blacksmith
Alice E Tidbury Daug, age 4, born Greenham
Edward J Tidbury Son, age 2, born Greenham
1901 Census St Johns Villa Newbury
Harriet Miller Single, Head, age 59, born Abingdon, living on own means
Rhoda Th webb Single, dom servant, age 24, born Mill Green Hants
Alice E Tidbury Married, ladys help, age 30 born Newbury
Louisa K Tidbury visitor, age 9m born Newbury
so it would appear that Alice continued working after marrying Edward and took the youngest child Louisa with her.
As my husband is a direct desendant of this line we have a bit more information than taht available on the internet. Heres a summary
Edward b 1871 had siblings
James b 1868 greenham
Frederick b 1874 greenham 1901 census Married to Lydia age 36 born Milton wilts with child Frederick age 3. all living at 2 Montague Place Newbury
Elizabeth b 1879 speen
Louisa K was known to the family as Kate. She married Christopher Coote and at some point the lived in Beverley Close Newbury. They appear to have one daughter Alice but i dont have any dates.
Louisa had a brother (son of Edward b 1871) named Fredrick Charles. He was born 20/5/1906 at 9 The folly Newbury he married Catherinr Olive Brown b 10/3/1907 east Challow. The marriage dated was 7/1/1928 at the parish church greenham. Fredrick and Olive had tow daughters Catherine Mary and Margaret Ann (my mother in law). Catherine married harry Smith (both living) but never had any children. margaret Marrried Laszlo Anthony Nemeth in 1961. They then had two sons Rodney James Anthony b 26/5/1961 (my husband) and Joh Richard Charles b 16/1/1963. all of these are still living. Rodney and I have two children Samual James Nemeth-Smyth b 28/4/1992 and Melissa Ann nemeth-Smyth b 5/10/1998
Edward b 1871 and Alice ellen Parker had a total of 5 children to our knowledge
Fredrick Charles b 1906 greenham
Alice E b 1897 greenham married Charlie (?) possibly 4 illegitimate children Frank, Olive, ? ? caversahm Reading area.
Edward J b 1898 greenham
Louisa K b 1901 greenham
Florence b 1907 greenham died unmarried approx 1970 buried Shaw Newbury
i'm now on the trail of the James and will keep you intouch with what i find. I'm struggling with ethe parents of James b 1843 any ideas? James and Phebe Preston don;t seem to fit date wise.
best wishes Linda
