Where's my $UK300 ?
HI Thurtell family. No hard feelings.Interesting to see John Thurtell's mother was Susanna Browne. One of two of the Weare family coats-of-arms & crest is of - "Weare-alias-Browne". Most of us Weare's have been killed off in wars. 12 killed in WW1 alone. William Weare was a solicitor at one time, he had one brother, who was a London tailor. I have no images of Wm.Weare at all. He lived at Lyons Inn, which is near Trafalgar Square in London in those days. Gambling and especially 'prize fighting' hooked in all classes of persons in ye olde England in those days, from Lords to paupers. They were difficult and hard times, we cannot judge any of these ppl, as we did not live in that era.Peirce Egan was at the trial, he wrote a book on Prizefighting called "Boxianna", my brother has one, and its in mint condition. All the great & small writers of the Victorian era wrote something of it. It was the No1 crime of the 1800's, it lost its flavour to the advent of Jack-The-Ripper in 1888.Gordon Weare.
