Cindy -Thanks for your response.I just recently found the census trails for Emmett Thurston from 1850 in NY (in his parent's household) to 1860 in Iowa with wife Elizabeth (age 24, b. NY) to 1870 in Missouri (Elizabeth's age is given as 34, b. NY) to 1880 in Arkansas (still with wife Elizabeth (age 46, b. NY).From these census records, it appears that their children were (in birth order):Edwin (1853), Ida (1856), Belle (1860), Elizabeth (1863; she shows in the 1880 census in Emmett's household as daughter Elizabeth Maynard, age 17), Mary (1867; my ancestor), John (1872), Margret (1875), and Lansing (1879).Also in the 1880 census, Emmett was listed as living in dwelling number 24 of the Fourche La Favre township of Perry County, AR.My ancestor Edmund Hogan Rankin was listed in dwelling number 18 of the same township, along with his wife Nancy Jane (Spears) and their son John Andrew Jackson Rankin, who married Emmett's daughter Mary on 24 Aug., 1884.JAJ Rankin was 16 per the 1880 census, and Mary Thurston was 12 per that census.
I have no data on Lucy McConnell, as she must have married Emmett after the death of Elizabeth (Minor), his first wife.I likewise have no death date for Emmett, as there are no dates at all inscribed on his tombstone in Antioch Cemetery at Perryville, AR.(I can send you a scan of my photograph of his tombstone, if you need it.)Emmett's daughter Mary (called "Molly" by the family) is buried about 50 feet from Emmett, beside her husband, John Andrew Jackson Rankin. If you know Emmett's death date, please post it or send it directly to me at [email protected].
Emmett's parents were John Thurston (b. 1795, NY) and Hannah (Shear??, b. 1799 NY).They are all found in the 1850 census in Albany County, showing John Emmett Thurston was born in 1830, NY[another source shows his birthdate as 1 Nov. 1829, in Greene County, NY].He married Elizabeth Minor in Coxsackie at the Dutch Reformed Church (Greene County) on 29 Dec., 1852.I do not have Emmett's service record, but I do have the history of Co. G of the 11th IL Infantry.I can share data via scans if you need it.I would also appreciate anything you have in the way of photos or dates.
Thanks again for the contact....John R.
