Thurber Family Genealogy Forum

Thurber DNA project are in. The first subject is a descendant of Benjamin Thurber, b. c. 1720, m. Elizabeth Hallett. His Y-chromosome is haplotype R1b, the most common European pattern which indicates his g g g g grandfather going back 10,000 years was a Cro-Magnon. His particular pattern is most common among Scandinavian/Germanic men, which would fit in with the Thurbers'/Thorbjorns' presumed origins, though also with Anglo-Saxon origins.
Another subject has signed up but it will be several weeks before results are in. This subject is a descendent through one of the Thurber lines documented back to John Thurber the immigrant. Hopefully the two will match up on all twelve markers, though this will only mean they very likely have a common ancestor within 23 generations. To prove they have a common ancestor closer than that we will have to upgrade to a test with more markers.
