Hi Dave - thanks for your message. There is no doubt in my mind that William and Sarah thrush of Little Somerford were parents of my great great great grandfather Thomas. What I want to find out is who William's parent were and how he is related to other Wiltshire Thrushes. The info on Alice James of Preshute is very interesting. As this is a christening record, presumably her birth was sometime shortly before July 1789. I have almost no info on the Alice James I am descended from but family records indicate that she was born about October 1790, which would be later than Alice James of Preshute, Wiltshire. Also, Thomas and Alice had a ninth child in Peterborough - Elizabeth - and on her death certificate it states that her mother was Alice James born in Ireland. these two facts seem to militate against Alice James of Preshute being the same as my Alice James. There are several remarkable coincidences, however: the christening date and the birth date are very close in time; the name Alice is not very common; Preshute is located immediately beside Marlborough, where two of Thomas and Alice's sons were baptised; and the father of Alice James of Preshute is named Benjamin. Thomas and Alice had a son named Benjamin, which was a very uncommon name among the Thrushes in Wiltshire - in fact there are no other Benjamin Thrushes on the IGI as far as I know. Although the date of birht and the birthplace don't quite match, sometimes records showing ages and birthplaces are incorrect and I cannot rule out Alice James of Preshute being the same Alice James who married Thomas Thrush. It's a very interesting lead for me - thanks so much for bringing it to my attention. Keep in touch.... Kerry
