Throgmortons in Henry County, Tennessee

I am trying to find the parents of Mary Edith Throgmorton b. about 1821 in North Carolina.

When my great-grandfather Elijah Cunningham married the second time, in 1903 in White County, Illinois, the county asked for his age, his place of birth, and the names of his parents. He supplied 56, Tennessee, Samuel H. Cunningham, and Mary E. Throgmorton.

That led directly to the 1850 census of District 7, Henry County, Tennessee. We find S. H. Cunningham, Edy, and four children including Elijah, age 3. We also find in the house two other children, Edy Throgmorton, 6, and James Throgmorton, 3. They cannot be Edy's children from a previous marriage. But their presence does show some connection with the Throgmortons.

Also, at the next farm is the family of James (Whitfield) and Ellenor (Pollard) Throgmorton.

Who are young Edy's and James's parents? There are six Throgmorton families in Henry County in 1850.
- The families of Robert (William Robert, "Robin"), James (Whitfield), and Richard (Jr., "Squire Dick"). These three are brothers, the sons of Richard b. about 1763 in Henrico County, Virginia, and Susan Naomi Watkins.
- The widow Rosanna (Wilkinson) Throgmorton. Her husband was Thomas b. 15 Apr 1785 in Stanly County, North Carolina. Thomas was first cousin to the three brothers above.
- James Pinckney ("Uncle Pink"), son of Thomas and Rosannah.
- Roberson b. about 1813 in North Carolina. I cannot connect Roberson into the family.

We also find Mary, daughter of Thomas and Rosanna, as the wife of Larkin Gillimore (Gallemore).

If we look at Rosanna's household, we see:
- Rosanna herself.
- Her son Lewis, his wife Margaret (Morton), and their new son William.
- William Throgmorton, b. about 1816 in Tennessee, and three children: Mary E., 6, R. Roberson, 5, and James, 3.

FamilySearch shows a family:
- James William Throgmorton, b. 12 Aug 1816 in North Carolina
- Theatus Ellen (or Edith) Pierce, who died 20 Dec 1848 in Henry County
- Mary Ellen, b. about 1844
- Robert Richard, b. 23 Sep 1845
- James William, b. 10 Apr 1847

This appears to be William and the three kids in Rosanna's house in 1850. William's parents are not known.

It is possible that Edy, 6, and James, 3, in S. H. and Edy Cunningham's household are the same as Mary E., 6, and James, 3 in Rosanna's household. They may have been double counted. The Cunninghams were enumerated on 16 Sep 1850 and Rosanna Throgmorton on 2 Dec 1850. There was plenty of time for the kids to move from one house to the other. Census takers will list whoever's present when they come by.

If they are not the same, then the parents of Edy and James are unknown.

So: Taken broadly, there appear to be connections between S. H. and Edy, young Edy and her brother James, Robert and Ellenor (next door), William b. 1816, and Rosanna. What are they?

Put another way: How do my great-great-grandmother Edy and William b. 1816 fit into the Throgmorton families of Henry County? And we may as well include the same question about Roberson b. 1813. Are they siblings coming from another branch of the family in North Carolina?

I would very much appreciate any information.

Thanks and regards

John
