Notes on John 1. Fought in the Revolutionary War twice, once when the war first began and then at the Battle of Kings Mountain. 2. Lived in Caswell Co. N. C. Rowan, Wilkes and Iredale Counties N. C., York and Union District in South Carolina before coming to Oconee Co. S. C.

It is a small rock with Allen Thrift and date on it. Allen married Narcissa King in N. C. she was b. c. 1789, d. Aft. 1869.

2. Was a Private in the Civil War. Co. A 1st (Orr’s) S.C. Rifles. Enlisted at Camp Pickins, Anderson District July20, 1861 at age 30, Admitted to General Hospital, Howard’s Grove, Va. on Jan. 18, 1863: admitted to Institute Hospital Richmond, Va. on Dec. 15, 1862 with gunshot wounds in both thighs. Lower third of one leg amputated. He was detached by Medical Board in Aug. 1864 on duty in the enrolling dept. in Pickens District.

Notes for Lorenza (Rance) Dow Thrift are:
1. He fought in the Civil War, he was a Private in Co. 1, Palmetto Sharp Shooters, (Jenkins Regiment). He enlisted in Pendelton, S. C. 14 April 1861. He also served as Teamster after a year because the Sharp Shooters Reg. was disbanded. He was paroled at Appomattox Court House, Va. 09 April 1865.

Notes for William Henry (Bill) Thrift: Bill was killed on election day, 28 Aug. 1908 by his best friend and cousin Logan Ramey. They were both helping voters that could not read or fill out their voting ballots. Bill questioned Logan about something he had put on someone’s ballot. Logan took a gun out of his pocket and shot Bill. He fell down the stairs near where they were standing . They were using the second floor of the store for voting. The store was owned by Horace Cannon. It was a grocery store, Post Office and a gathering place for the community. Bill died the next day. He bled to death.
